Six-Figure Jobs & Social Networking
January 31st, 2008

Those searching for executive level jobs rarely find themselves without opportunities when it comes times to switch employers. The real problem many of those who earn six figure salaries experience is trying to find jobs that meet their expectations. For the most part, executives often have to make critical sacrifices in their personal lives when it comes time to find a new job and a new challenge.

The best way to avoid having to give up something, like extra time with the family, in order to find employment is to be more proactive in one’s job search. Instead of waiting for the next great opportunity to land in their lap, those who hold executive jobs should act as if they are always on the look out for a new job. Because of this, social networking, a concept that is crucial to those dedicated to their careers, is even more important to those who earn six figure incomes.

Those at the executive level must network deliberately, keeping in mind the ultimate goal of increasing the number of contacts one has that are either equally successful or more so. Because of this, it is important to never pass up the opportunity for an introduction. When attending a party or charity event, ask a mutual contact to introduce the those who already highly placed in other companies.

Once names and status have been established, don’t shy away from the topic of work. These individuals may later help when it comes time look for new employment. But remember, social networking works both ways, so expect to be willing to help others in similar situations. Focusing too strongly on one’s own goals will make it difficult to come across as someone who has something to offer others.

On a similar note, those who hold executive jobs should make sure to establish themselves as experts in their fields. Be willing to offer advice and make sure that others know are aware of what this knowledge can do for them. This will make it easier when it comes time to look for new employment, because others will already be aware of how adding such a competent executive will benefit their workplace.
